The Colosseum, located in the heart of Rome, is the main attraction of this tour. This ancient amphitheater is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world and a testament to the engineering prowess of the Roman Empire. Situated near the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the Colosseum stands as a symbol of Rome’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance.
The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheater, was constructed in the first century AD under the rule of Emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus. It was designed to host gladiatorial contests, public spectacles, and other forms of entertainment for the citizens of Rome. The structure is an architectural marvel, featuring a complex system of vaults and arches that allowed it to accommodate up to 50,000 spectators. Visitors on this tour will have the opportunity to explore the arena floor, where gladiators once fought, and the underground dungeons, where animals and combatants were held before events.
Adjacent to the Colosseum lies the Roman Forum, the political and social center of ancient Rome. This area was the heart of Roman public life, hosting triumphal processions, elections, public speeches, and criminal trials. The tour provides access to this historic site, offering insights into the daily life and governance of the Roman Empire. Visitors can explore the ruins of important government buildings, temples, and monuments, gaining a deeper understanding of the complex political and social structures that defined ancient Rome.
Palatine Hill, one of the Seven Hills of Rome, is considered the birthplace of the city. According to Roman mythology, it was here that Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome, were discovered by a she-wolf. The hill offers breathtaking views of the Roman Forum and the city beyond, making it a highlight of the tour. Visitors can explore the remains of imperial palaces and gardens, gaining insight into the opulent lifestyle of Rome’s elite. The tour provides an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of emperors and experience the grandeur of ancient Rome firsthand.
To begin your journey through ancient Rome, meet your guide at Via del Colosseo, 31, conveniently located near the Colosseum. Look for staff members wearing matching t-shirts and standing next to a blue flag with “The Ultimate Italy” logo, ensuring easy identification. It is essential to arrive at the meeting point at least 30 minutes before your scheduled tour departure time to complete the check-in process. Remember to bring a valid passport or ID document that matches the name provided during booking, as this is required for entry to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Please note that pets are not allowed inside the venue, and each participant must present an ID or a photo of it, as mandated by the monument’s entry requirements.
