Itinerary: from the underground of the Colosseum and the arena to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

Experience a complete tour of the Colosseum Archaeological Park.

1. Underground of the Colosseum

The tour starts with the underground passages of the Colosseum. To enter it you need a special ticket, which is included in the tour. The dungeons were used during the performances of the arena to manage the passage of fighters and animals, with the help of trapdoors and hoists by means of a complex system of winches.

2. Colosseum Arena

The second stop on the tour is the arena of the Colosseum. While in Roman times the arena covered the entire floor of the amphitheatre, today a walkable portion has been recreated. From here you can experience being in the centre of the amphitheatre, surrounded by the stands from which the spectators enjoyed the combat shows.

3. Roman Forum and Palatine Hill

Together with your guide you will then move on to the Roman Forum, the archaeological site that was once the centre of political, economic and religious life in Ancient Rome. The Palatine Hill, where your tour ends, represents a complex of places of worship (Temple of Apollo Palatine, Temple of the Magna Mater, the Elagabalium) and aristocratic domus, from the Domus Augustea to the Domus Tiberiana.

Instructions

• Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the chosen time. Via del Colosseo 24, above the 2nd floor of the metro line B (blue line), stop “Colosseo”
• Show to the attendants (identifiable by polo shirts or blue jackets with the writing “City Wonders”) your ticket in printed form or directly on your smartphone
• After visiting the Colosseum you can visit the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill at your leisure
• Present a valid ID
• Show up 30 minutes for the security check

Additional information

It is not possible to enter the Colosseum with bulky objects such as suitcases, trolleys and backpacks. At the entrance you will have to pass through a security gate.
