The Sistine Chapel is renowned for its breathtaking ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512. The chapel serves as the site of the Papal conclave, where new popes are elected. The chapel’s walls are adorned with frescoes by other Renaissance masters, such as Botticelli and Perugino, making it a must-see attraction for art lovers.
Among the many highlights of the Vatican Museums are the Raphael Rooms, a series of four rooms painted by Raphael and his workshop. These rooms, originally intended as the private apartments of Pope Julius II, feature stunning frescoes that depict various religious and historical scenes. Another notable attraction is the Gallery of Maps, which showcases a series of topographical maps of Italy, painted between 1580 and 1585. The maps are not only artistically impressive but also provide valuable insights into the geographical knowledge of the time.

You had to queue normally for the security check. Without queuing is therefore not really true. But it was a highlight tour with a nice guide. It was much less busy in the evening and you had the opportunity to spend a little longer in the Sistine Chapel than in the middle of the day.
