This ticket provides access to the museums’ most significant galleries and exhibits, offering a deep dive into the rich cultural heritage of the Vatican.
One of the highlights of the Vatican Museums is the Gallery of Maps, a stunning corridor adorned with topographical maps of Italy, painted between 1580 and 1585. These maps, commissioned by Pope Gregory XIII, are not only artistic masterpieces but also provide a fascinating glimpse into the geographical knowledge of the time. The gallery’s ceiling is equally impressive, featuring intricate frescoes depicting various religious scenes. As visitors stroll through this corridor, they are transported back in time, gaining insight into the historical and cultural context of the Renaissance period.
The Raphael Rooms, a series of papal apartments adorned with frescoes by the renowned artist Raphael and his students, are another must-see attraction within the Vatican Museums. These rooms, commissioned by Pope Julius II, showcase Raphael’s mastery of composition, color, and narrative. Notable frescoes include The School of Athens, which depicts famous philosophers and scholars, and The Parnassus, illustrating the mythological home of the muses. The Raphael Rooms offer a captivating journey through Renaissance art and thought, reflecting the intellectual and cultural vibrancy of the period.

Our guide was amazing. (I think her name was Martzi?). She was incredibly knowledgeable and really took the time to explain so much of the history and significance of everything we saw. She also was lots of fun and really included everyone in the tour. The Dome climb was such a great experience- especially doing it early in the morning. The view was spectacular! The Basilica was incredible. Would have liked a little more time in the Sistine Chapel but unfortunately it was quite crowded by the time our group arrived. Other than that, it was definitely a really worthwhile tour.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the various parts of the Vatican and items in the Vatican museum. She was also very good with dealing with other guides and people not following the process or posted requirements. Marcia was our guide and very good. The only recommendation for future tours is to provide details on how much walking is required for the length of the tours and options for resting and elevators

The guide presented art history and historical knowledge in a very engaging and entertaining way. And it was not easy for her to keep the very different people in the group together. Perhaps it would be helpful to point out that you need to be a good walker to take part in this tour.

Our guide was very knowledgeable. It was a very early start but well worth it to see St. Peter’s Square in the early morning light. Our tour included a walk to the top of the Dome, with stunning views over the square and Rome. A long climb but worth it.
