Mademoiselle Pogany is not an isolated work, but part of a series developed by Brâncuși over several decades. Mademoiselle Pogany is considered one of the most emblematic works of modern sculpture. In it, the overcoming of naturalistic representation and the affirmation of an autonomous language, based on synthesis and abstraction, are clearly manifested. The polished bronze plays a central role in the perception of the work. The reflective surface not only enhances the form, but also makes it dynamic, altering its appearance in relation to light and the viewer’s point of view. The work exerted a strong influence on the avant-garde movements of the twentieth century and on contemporary sculpture, contributing to the definition of a new conception of form as the expression of a universal idea.
