Explore the Colosseum and its surroundings

The Colosseum, located in the heart of Rome, is the main attraction included in this ticket. As one of the most iconic symbols of Ancient Rome, the Colosseum stands as a testament to the architectural and engineering prowess of the Roman Empire. Situated near other historical landmarks such as the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the Colosseum offers visitors a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Roman society.

The Colosseum: a marvel of ancient engineering

The Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian in AD 70-72 and completed by his son Titus in AD 80. This monumental structure was designed to host gladiatorial contests, public spectacles, and other forms of entertainment.

With a seating capacity of up to 80,000 spectators, the Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of its time. Visitors can explore the first and second tiers, gaining insight into the architectural innovations that allowed for such a massive structure to be built. The Colosseum’s design, featuring a complex system of vaults and arches, remains a marvel of engineering to this day.

The Roman Forum: the heart of ancient Rome

Adjacent to the Colosseum lies the Roman Forum, the epicenter of political, social, and religious life in Ancient Rome. This sprawling complex of ruins includes temples, basilicas, and public spaces that played a crucial role in the daily life of Roman citizens. As you wander through the Forum, you’ll encounter remnants of significant structures such as the Temple of Saturn, the Arch of Septimius Severus, and the Curia Julia, the Senate House of Rome. The Forum offers a fascinating glimpse into the workings of Roman society and the events that shaped the history of the Roman Empire.

Palatine Hill: the birthplace of Rome

Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome, is steeped in myth and history. According to legend, it was on this hill that Romulus founded the city of Rome. The hill later became the residence of emperors and aristocrats, with magnificent palaces and gardens adorning its slopes. Visitors can explore the ruins of the Domus Augustana, the House of Augustus, and the Stadium of Domitian, among other sites. Palatine Hill offers breathtaking views of the Roman Forum and the city of Rome, providing a serene escape from the bustling city below.
